PRODUCT DETAILS

This brooch reconstructs the "blank spaces" and "edges" that inevitably arise during the production process, giving them new value.
He refocuses on materials that have outlived their usefulness, finishing them as one-of-a-kind pieces that combine chance and handcrafted craftsmanship.
Although it is decorative, we value the product's background and the feeling of wearing it over time.

Material

Made from denim scraps generated during the production process.
The flower corsages and tassels are made from reconstructed denim fabric, making use of the individual differences in the material.
The antique beads we use include goose egg shells and glass beads made in the early to mid-1900s.

Processing

Denim scraps are cut and shaped into flower motifs and tassels, which are then handcrafted one by one.
All combinations of beads and strings are assorted, and no two pieces are the same.
By leaving the aging and distortion of the material itself, we emphasize differences in appearance rather than uniformity.

Silhouette

Brooch design based on a safety pin.
The construction creates a swaying and overlapping effect, adding a natural movement when worn.
The impression changes depending on the item you attach it to, such as clothing or a bag.

Background Story

This product was created by combining scrap wood that would have been discarded with antique beads collected from across time and places.
Beads are mainly found in India and Nepal, each with its own unique background and time period.
This is a one-of-a-kind item that is unique to this assortment, and is a direct expression of the accumulation of chance and memories.

About the brand

Wear the authenticity.

Wear the culture.

Uncompromising everyday wear in modern times.

KURO, founded in Tokyo in 2010, initially began as a denim brand with the purpose of merging Tokyo's dynamic energy with the high craftsmanship of Okayama denim. The brand name, KURO, meaning "black" in Japanese, reflects the subtle beauty embodied in words like black-purple, jet black, and black-brown, inspired by the color of Japanese eyes and hair. KURO’s collections are defined by the concept of "black" in Japanese, which embodies a delicate sense of refinement.

By incorporating the unique sensibilities and perceptions of the Japanese people, KURO’s creations blend modernized design with the craftsmanship inherited from artisans across Japan, carrying on history and tradition. KURO views its denim products not merely as denim but as an integral part of its identity, reflecting both culture and respect for the environment. From the development of original fabrics to the architectural elements incorporated into minimalist designs, each component fuses with the expertise of skilled Japanese craftsmen. This combination creates a timeless dignity and serene elegance that endures over time.

KURO’s journey is one of pursuing a wordless elegance that lies within not just aesthetics and materials, but also in the highest quality textiles, minimalist design, and meticulously crafted garments and denim. Our denim collection embodies this philosophy, blending understated sophistication with a modern lifestyle, resulting in designs that reflect the perspectives, ideas, and values that shape today's society.
